Bio: Andy was working at a financial advisory firm managing the the technology department when he got so frustrated with w*rk he quit and moved to Argentina to focus on making a business out of his hobby. Bio: W2R retired in 2009 at age 61 after a career as a senior oceanographer for the federal government. She and her companion, Frank, are not married and do not live together, but have been devoted to one another for over a decade. Have worked in the chemical industry since 1979 mostly doing process control, but have also spent a number of years in IT. With the job, have lived in various locations in England, Scotland, Texas and Louisiana, and have also traveled quite extensively on business.
Paid off mortgage to become debt free the same year that first kid went to college and retired as planned as soon as was eligible, end of January 2010. Have a non-COLA pension to cover the basics, and plan on drawing down investments to maintain our desired lifestyle.
Investments are simple, utilizing index or low cost funds from Fidelity and Vanguard.
